Resident programming fosters skills, camaraderie and leadership
AUA2025 is the place for residents to grow professionally and find their place in the global urology community.

Residents attending the 2025 AUA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas will find a robust lineup of programming designed to educate, empower and engage future leaders in urology. From high-stakes competitions to focused leadership development, the meeting offers a dedicated slate of events tailored to the needs of trainees, including the Global Residents Leadership Retreat, Flip the Script, Residents Bowl and Resident Abstract Olympics.
“AUA2025 features an array of programming designed just for urology residents and fellows,” said Melissa Goodman, CMP, DES, AUA director of Annual Meeting Programs, Convention + Meetings. “In addition to these events, trainees can visit the Residents Pavilion in the Science & Technology Hall to connect with peers and attend the Residents Forum. They can also engage with mentors and employers during Residents and Fellows Speed Mentoring* and network at the Career Fair taking place in the Bellini and San Polo meeting rooms.”
Global Residents Leadership Retreat: building tomorrow’s leaders
Held every other year, the Global Residents Leadership Retreat will return in 2025 on Friday, April 25, just before the official start of the meeting. This one-day, invitation-only program unites approximately 40 residents from across the AUA’s domestic Sections and international member regions for an immersive experience in leadership development and networking.
Residents are nominated by their Sections or partner societies belonging to the AUA International Member Committee.
Sessions cover topics such as conflict management, public speaking, mentoring and team-building. Participants also gain insights from four extraordinary urology leaders during a Lessons in Leadership panel discussion at the conclusion of the program.
Flip the Script: changing the conversation
This innovative session invites residents and educators to “flip the script” on traditional medical education, offering a fresh take. For this event, it is the young urologists (those with 10 years or less of experience in practice) who get the opportunity to present their interesting cases to their more senior colleagues, instead of the usual other way around. The Flip the Script format is interactive and inclusive, encouraging open dialogue and new ideas in a supportive environment.
Residents Bowl: sectional pride meets academic rigor
The always-spirited Residents Bowl will once again pit the eight AUA Sections against one another in a fast-paced, Jeopardy-style quiz competition. Each team includes domestic and international trainees and must demonstrate superior knowledge of urologic principles, practice and history. The competition draws a lively crowd and offers residents a fun, high-profile way to test their skills and build team camaraderie.
Resident Abstract Olympics: going for gold
Back again for 2025, the National Residency Abstract Olympics rewards excellence in research submissions. Programs earn points based on the number of abstracts accepted for presentation that list a resident as the presenting author. The competition culminates in an awards ceremony where gold, silver and bronze medals are presented to the top-performing residency programs.
AUA Instructional Course Pass and more
This year’s Resident/Fellow/International Resident in Training registration packages include complimentary access to the AUA Instructional Course Pass, allowing members to attend 70+ educational courses at no additional cost. Non-members may purchase access separately.
Together, these programs reflect AUA’s ongoing commitment to shaping the future of urology by offering trainees meaningful opportunities to learn, lead and connect.
